This Year, I’m Using the Library and Staying Digital

A bunch of impulse buys I regret… just not for obvious reasons

Over the past year, I’ve recommitted myself to my minimalist roots, for the most part. I still slip up and have my weak areas. My most prominent weak area is books.

Over the past 18 months, I’ve read over 400 books.

They were a great comfort to me while I was going through two sets of physical therapy, one set of lymphedema therapy to treat the excess fluid in my legs, and multiple doctor’s appointments last year.

They let me travel without limitations, stimulated my mind, and provided escapism.

I have not always been the most careful shopper when it came to books. To be honest, I’m still not. If I see it, find myself enticed by the blurb, and can afford it, I buy it.

I’ve found that I keep between 25–50% of the books I own and read. Sometimes I mark a book as “did not finish”, other times, I just didn’t think the book was good enough to warrant a reread. My policy is that a book has to be at least a 3.5 on a scale of 5 stars to be kept.

The books I decided not to keep, I donated. At some point, I might start trying to sell them. However, donation was easier.
