The Road Just Got Longer

It’s always hard to have a parent in failing health

She was supposed to be home tomorrow. Instead, her journey has doubled.

Randy and I just picked up my mom’s stuff from the rehabilitation facility she was staying at.

On Wednesday, things seemed more hopeful. We were going to go out and see if we could bring her home in current condition.

Everything came crashing down instead. She became non-responsive and was transferred back to the emergency department.

So, we’re in the dark. We don’t know what caused the slip, but thankfully it was not a second stroke.

Current theories are dehydration or infection.

She’s going to stay at the hospital, at least through the weekend. She has a feeding tube and *just in case* I’m getting asked living will questions. She’s still unresponsive.

When she does get discharged, she’ll be going to a skilled nursing facility for a few weeks.

I don’t know how to feel about anything. I’m at a loss. She’s pulled through a lot of stuff, but when does time catch up?

Tagging Katie Michaelson and Randy Pulley because they’ve been kind enough to ask me directly about her.
