I don’t like to go chasing a word of the year.

I’m also not someone who starts doodling words on December 31st to choose my own.

I let my word of the year choose me. It’s usually a word that represents how I’m feeling about the year ahead, the year we’re coming out of, or a word that just seems to be repeating itself in my life.

This year, I was having a conversation with my mom and husband. Mom was telling me about something that my uncle and aunt were going to do this year.

I sarcastically thought, “That would be an adventure”. I had a nudge like feeling in my heart. “Adventure? You want adventure this year?” I thought. Nudge.

So, adventure has been my word of the year.

I didn’t stick with my original idea of doing something that broke my comfort zone every week.

I’ve learned that I usually don’t do too well with extended challenges. I will only commit to a long-term project if it’s a practice that I can keep well after the initial excitement wears off.

However, having an adventure-ready mindset has stayed with me the past six months.
