My 2025 Reading Resolutions

Hoping for a more relaxed but still challenging year

Over the weekend, I finished my 2025 reading journal. Though I usually spend the weekend after Thanksgiving crafting the whole thing, I started early this year. That might be a theme of my end of year planning- do it early and have it in place.

Creating that journal always gives me time to think. Especially about what goals or restrictions I want to set for the next year.

I came up with four reading resolutions for 2025. I think, in their own way, each will help me to have an enjoyable year.

Allow Myself to DNF More Often

DNF stands for Do Not Finish. It’s putting down the book and not picking it back up. I can be a completionist and my stack of books that have been DNFed is not very large.

Even if I’m bored early on in the book, I want to believe that it gets better. I’ve been burned more often than not when I keep reading. Or it could be that I’ve heard that others have loved this book. I want to keep fighting to stay invested to see what they saw. This does not always pan out.

Each book takes time, usually hours to read. The books that are not being enjoyed are taking time from those that could be.
