Day 9: A Kind Heart

It’s sometimes hard to keep a kind heart. When others push us to our breaking point, it’s hard to respond in kindness.

However, by being kind, we show them that we can’t be broken. That their actions don’t publicly affect us. After a while, they learn they can’t break us.

I like to think of it as throwing confetti-like salt.

I struggle with this sometimes.

When I got married, we had a small reception. My husband wanted a bigger bash when COVID restrictions started being lowered. I was perfectly happy with the reception we had.

One member of his family baked cookies (it’s one of her hobbies) and his brother bought drinks. His mother’s excuse was that she was just too far away (4 hours) to do anything to help.

So, that left my family to do all of the work- gift bags, half of the cookies, centerpieces, invitations, etc. By the time the event actually came, I was tired from long hours and upset that it was mostly one-sided.

My aunt begged me, out of respect for her, not to react out of anger and to be especially nice to his mother.

It was tough to keep my feelings in check. However, looking back, I realized how I could have…
