Day 19’s prompt: Where Does Your Love of Writing Come From

A lot of my interests can be traced through my family.

My love for Halloween comes from my grandfather’s love of horror movies, my grandmother’s love of palm reading and spooky stories, and my aunt being the queen of the haunted school.

Recently, I learned that my grandmother and her sister devoured and traded thrillers and mysteries. I knew about the horror books Grandma loved, but not the other genres. What are my favorite genres of literature? All three.

My grandfather enjoyed journalism. It’s the degree that he attended and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with. During World War II, he was in the communications department before becoming a Sargent in the army. He had a radio show for a few years in Erie, PA before moving down to Pittsburgh.

While he was mostly a broadcaster, the traits, I believe are transferrable. It takes a strong desire to communicate the news or your views, beliefs, and truth. A willingness to investigate.

By the time I came along, my grandfather was retired. He was into HAM radio (amateur radio) and communicating.
