Gratitude

A poem

The cold wind smacks against me
as I step out this morning to get mail.
It’s reminding me of the changes of life.

Reminding me that nothing stays the same
forever. So the small things need to be counted.
Those things we too often overlook, need praise.

Gratitude reminds us to be grateful for things
that bring contentment: even if that is simplicity.
The coffee with extra cream, cuddles with dogs,

Love letters of all kinds, our current collections.
The fact that we don’t know when change is coming.
Yet, today, we will look for the silver lining.
