3 Techniques that Are Helping Me to Stay Consistent with Writing
I use these daily
For the last 90 days, I’ve been writing at least 500 words a day. That might not seem like much, but for someone who had been out of the writing game for almost a year, it’s a lot of progress.
There are three strategies I use when writing, especially on the days when inspiration doesn’t come easily. They are my tried and tested methods.
- The Seinfeld Strategy
The Seinfeld strategy was created by comedian Jerry Seinfeld. For each day that he wrote jokes, he would cross off the day on the calendar. This built up a streak that both proved his consistency and made it hard to break the streak. His strategy focuses more on consistency and process, not performance.
Gold stars or heart stickers work for me. In my 90-day journey so far, I’ve fallen short of the 500 words twice. However, I always write. I also don’t publish everything that I write. Some of it I save for another day.
2. Write or do nothing- Neil Gaiman
The idea is to schedule a consistent writing time and then sit in silence. You can write, but if not inspired, do nothing. Either the silence will spark ideas, or it won’t.
